TIPS ON BRAZIL



As of lately, I’ve gotten too many direct messages on my social media accounts, inquiring about safety in Brazil. Decided to address it on my blog as it may be of use to future travellers going to Brazil. 

In my personal experience I can say that I’ve never been a victim of any violence in Brazil or any other country (knock wood). As we all know violence exist everywhere and in each city no matter where you go. I’ve heard countless horror stories from travellers I’ve met along the way and it never gets any easier listening to their nightmares. Needless to say that even with those encounters it did not prevent them from travelling to unfamiliar grounds and experiencing different cultures. The one thing that I always try and remember is that no experience is the same. We all view and experience things differently.

With that being said, I’ve list a few things I would strongly suggest taking a look at or doing while travelling.

  1. Research its Key: Planning ahead is such an important skill to have. You should be in the  know at all times especially when you don’t speak the language. Always know where you’re going and that includes your activities/journeys within the country. I’m not saying to know street for street and addresses but at least know how long it will take you to get there and maybe what city its located in.
It’s also important to know the company you book with, your hotel/hostel/airbnb and what’s in the area. 
*Google maps / Maps.me are  great tools to have to really be in the know. You can punch in your address and follow along if that makes you feel safer.
  1. Travel advisories: One of my absolute favourite websites to check before going away is https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/registration
This website allows me to check any known warnings before visiting a country, visas required, what to wear, what to bring into the country, etc. It’s definitely a great website to check out. 

  1. Reviews: Companies like Trip Advisor https://www.tripadvisor.ca  make it so easy for you to get a feel of where you’re staying, possible interests and what to expect from your interests and companies that you book with. Not to mention that reading reviews before you book your hotel stay can improve the quality of customer service you receive. For example, I know I’m not staying at a hotel that members are complaining about theft. I don’t want to be 1 out of how many that doesn’t get robbed, not willing to test it out. 
  1. Surroundings: Always know your surroundings and be alert! It’s not uncommon to be scoped out or watched. 
  1. Flashy items: Do not wear flashy items (name branded items/extensive jewelry) and keep your purse/backpack close to you at all times. This may change depending on where you’re visiting but always keep that in mind.
  1. Money: Never put your money or credit cards in one spot and never let anyone see where you put it. Have smaller bills handy and don’t pull out larger bills in public. Besides having smaller bills can help with bargaining as it may look like that’s all you have. 
  1. Electronics: I would recommend once your finish with your camera or any electronics to put it away in a bag so it’s not so open to the public.
  1. Kindness: It truly goes a long way and it doesn’t pay to be nice to people.


Please note that this post does not ensure any safety what so ever for anyone. I’m simply just sharing tips that may help when travelling to an unfamiliar destination. Especially for those who love venturing out like myself. 

No matter where you go in the world there will be someone trying to take advantage because they know you’re not from the area, or country and may not speak the language.

The Grotto: Bruce Peninsula National Park

As seen in the above photograph you probably thought I was somewhere in the Caribbean. Nope! This would be the beautiful Bruce Peninsula in Ontario, Canada. Yes! Canada. I could not believe how crystal clear the water was, it made you want to just jump in. The Peninsula genuinely took me away. It probably took about 8 minutes if not more for my body to adjust to bear the cold so that I could stay in the water longer. Currently, the park entrance is free to celebrate Canada 150. Which means you have to arrive early if wanting to visit the Grotto. Time slots are given for parking access inside the Grotto area know as Cyprus Lake and are given to first come first serve visitors. HOW I MASTERED PACKING LIGHT

Well sort of… I’m always looking for ways to pack light with the use of only my Carry-On . Over the years of travelling, I’ll like to think I’ve come a far way from what I used to be. I use to be the girl that practically brings her entire wardrobe when she goes travelling. I mean one week away would include my checked luggage, my carryon and personal hand bag. PRIVATE ISLAND FLAMINGOS

Let me start by saying that Aruba is one Beautiful and Happy Island. I stayed at the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino, the Marina Bay location. This was only a 10 minute drive from the airport or probably even closer. Getting to the Hotel, I was pleased with the services of the staff and luckily enough I had just arrived in time for Happy Hour.  This ADULTS ONLY location had a Casino and a few restaurants you could choose from. My two favourites were Aquarius and L.G Smith’s Steak & Chop House (before becoming a Pescatarian). I was in love with the pool and how it overlooked the Bay area.  Keep in mind there are two Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino locations. The Renaissance Marina Hotel is the adults only location and the Renaissance Ocean Suite location is family friendly.  Because I stayed at the Renaissance, the private beach was accessible to me by boat.
