10 THINGS I CANNOT TRAVEL WITHOUT

  1. Gadgets: As we know technology is a major part of our society today. We have the luxury of documenting our experiences through sources of film preserving our memories. This brings me to why it is absolutely important that I have my gadgets needed for my travels. This includes my Sony Alpha 7, Tripod, iPhone 10x, all applicable chargers and a Universal Converter.
  1. Medical Kit: You never know when you’ll be in need of medical assistant. If you can prevent visiting a hospital or walk-in clinic, then why not. This is why I always have an emergency kit available to avoid any trip to the Doctors or Pharmacy for my basic needs. To name a few, my kit includes: Imodium, Pepto-Bismol, Tylenol, Advil, Gravel, Canesten, Benadryl, Band-aids, Alcohol wipes and Polysporin.
(Other kits may include: Epipen for allergies, Inhaler for Asthma and a Medical bracelet - to be worn)

  1. Travel Insurance. Other than having a passport and a photocopy of it, money, or necessary documents needed for entry, I cannot travel without Insurance. Whether you are covered by your place of work, credit card or outside agencies, it gives you a sense of comfort.
  1. Lock. You never know when you might need it. Plus its better to be secured than anything. Some of my travels I’ve stayed in Hostels and in order for me to securely locked my luggage or backpack, a lock was needed. As for my checked luggage, I almost always put on a lock. Nevertheless, I do not carry any valuables in my checked luggage other than my clothes. Valuables like jewelry and gadgets are kept with me at all times in my carry-on luggage or personal hand luggage.
  1. Rape Whistle. Never had to use it before but I’ve always brought it with me no matter where I go or who I travel with.
  1. Plane Blanket. I’m one for always being cold, so I can never leave this behind. NEVER. My plane ride would be the worst if I didn’t have at least two blankets to feel comfortable. I’d even ask the flight attendant for extra blankets if two was not enough. I love to be warm at all times.
  1. Small Aluminum Water Bottle. Not a big fan of bringing around plastic water bottles all day in and out of the sun. I’d rather keep it cool in an aluminum or metal water bottle.
  1. Travel Cube: This includes the essentials needed for a female traveller: Feminine products, Skincare products, Makeup, Hair tie or Silk Bonnet (Black girl style), Sunscreen,  Lotion, Lip balm and Hand sanitizer.
If trying to pack light, most products can be bought on the road once you reach your destination if you're not too particular like myself with having a specific brand available.

  1. Feminine wipes or Kleenex. You just never know where you’ll end up.

  1. Swim wear, Runners (White Creps) and Birkenstocks. No matter where I am in the world, I always have to bring a pair of bathing suit. Even when it is not needed I hope that I will wear it someday. Coming from someone who cannot even swim, I have quite the addiction to swimwear. I kid you not, I have over 50 pairs old, new and cannot fit. As for the runners, I almost always need a pair of comfortable to shoes to go about my day or to wear on the plane. I don't know about anyone, but my feet swells when I’m travelling. I would either toss on a pair of runners to alleviate the pain or my Birkenstocks. Birkenstocks does wonders!

BOM DIA BRAZIL

Waking Up in Rio de Janeiro and Bahia RIO DE JANEIRO, RIO DE JANEIRO My first time visiting Rio de Janeiro was back in 2015. School was out and I would spend the next month and a bit backpacking South America. First up was Rio. I fell in love with this place the moment I arrived in its beauty and lets be honest my first Caipirinha. Lost in translation, not being able to communicate with most people and even with the airline loosing my luggage which meant I would spend the next few hours or days in Toga wear was all apart of the journey. From the meat (huge meat lover), the people, the environment and the vast amount of options I had at my hands, I knew I would visit again. This time I was able to journey back to Rio and for the first time, Salvador. Of course I loved it too, especially more so now that I had help! José was my voice box as he speaks fluent Portuguese. I didn’t realize until that moment how much of a difference speaking a main language in a country would...

10 PERSONAL FACTS ABOUT ME

I would consider myself a Cultural Explorer, Budgeter, Free Spirit and an Organized traveller. In other words, “I’m Frugal”, a big wise spender.  I’m a music lover and being from Jamaica you’d assume I love Dancehall and Reggae everyday and anyday. Well, Afrobeats is the filling in my oreo. I’m in love with Dancehall first, then Afrobeats then comes Reggae unless we talking about Buju Banton, he comes first. I’m a “Parents Girl”. If you’ve met them you’ll understand. I cannot choose, not that we should have to anyways. I ran Track & Field throughout my school days, mostly 100 meters. Wanting to focus more on my studies, I decided to quit after first year university and boy has it been hard to get back in the gym and running again. My favourite sport athletes are Serena Williams and Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce. Surprise I did not say Usain Bolt.  I’m a watch lover, never buy my right size online shopper, and neat freak! My car is probably the cleanest car you’l...

The Grotto: Bruce Peninsula National Park

As seen in the above photograph you probably thought I was somewhere in the Caribbean. Nope! This would be the beautiful Bruce Peninsula in Ontario, Canada. Yes! Canada. I could not believe how crystal clear the water was, it made you want to just jump in. The Peninsula genuinely took me away. I forgot where I was but then remembered oh so quickly that yes I was in Canada. The water was freezing cold! It probably took about 8 minutes if not more for my body to adjust to bear the cold so that I could stay in the water longer. Currently, the park entrance is free to celebrate Canada 150. Which means you have to arrive early if wanting to visit the Grotto. Time slots are given for parking access inside the Grotto area know as Cyprus Lake and are given to first come first serve visitors. These parking passes last for 4 hours (be sure not to spend longer to avoid ticketing).  I arrived at the park exactly at 10 am and ended up getting a 5pm - 9pm parking pass to vi...
