If you’re thinking about Ice Fishing, JUST DO IT, BOOK IT! Hands down this experience was amazing. Never in my years I thought of walking on ice. Not to mention camping out on the inside of a Hut on ice. The entire experience was so surreal. It definitely got my heart beating.
So how does one go Ice Fishing?
It’s actually quite simple, just takes loads of patience. I mean get ready to just sit, drink, eat and maybe even sleep. I definitely took a nap with the rod in my hands. OOPS!
First Step is to know where you want to go, then book a Hut. Trust me you’re gonna need one especially on the really cold days as it's a way to keep you warm or warm you up after you’ve gone fishing outside.
Cost: $50 CAD per person

I loved this location, then again I’ve only ever experienced this once. The customer service was really good and I loved that they entertained my energy and excitement that day.
Second Step is to get your Outdoors card and Fishing License. You’re required to have both in Ontario which can be purchased at a Canadian tire or Bass Pro. Bought mine the night before and was completed on the spot. An official card will be sent via mail but the temporary one will be printed in store.
Keep in mind that not every Canadian does this application process. So call ahead and find the nearest location that will fill out both applications for you.
Cost: Outdoors card $11.94 CAD; Sport Fishing License $90 CAD (3 years) & $30 CAD (1 year) + service charges.
Conservation Fishing License $51 CAD (3 years) & $17 CAD (1 year)
*You can choose between sport fishing license (allowed to take home 6 fishes and can fish anywhere) or conservation fishing license (allowed to take home 2 fishes and can only fish on a conservation area).
Third Step is to gather all the items you’ll need to go fishing (items listed below). I was fortunate that I went with one of my friend who goes ice fishing all the time. Definitely cut down on the cost
Cost: Unknown
Fourth Step is to do a little grocery shopping to ensure you’re not going to go hungry. Fishing is like playing cards, you never know what cards you’re gonna be dealt. Sometimes you catch a ton and other times you’re shit outta luck. So to prevent being miserable (like me) because you’re hungry, do a light grocery shopping.
Cost: Price varies depending on how much you eat.
Last Step is just to show up and HAVE FUN!
Cost: PRICELESS
